Description
The LM741 is an older mono operational amplifier IC used in some very good distortion pedals. It's probably not for every application, but this IC was used in the MXR® Distortion+™ and the DOD® 250™ distortion. It also is common in some buffer circuits.
To put this IC in perspective, I suggest you read the first few forum posts in a thread over at DIYStompboxes (opens in new window). It discusses why this IC has its place, sounds good in certain applications, and even though some newer ICs have better "specs" you might want to let your ears be the judge.
